Bah, then Guild Wars falls in the trap of every other MMORPG out there.... and sales slowly decline as people lose interest.
It's a pretty crazy state of affairs for the MMORPG - unless you are a franchise (like Lord of the Rings, D&D, Warhammer, uh... what's that other one? O yeah, World of Worecraft) you're gonna have a hard time getting into the market.
Guild Wars has two things going for it that makes it different: No monthly fees, and a level cap. Now other games are coming with no monthly fees, which means, Guild Wars will continue to have NO higher levels, NO higher max weapons, etc.
The minute they do that, Guild Wars is over, because you've taken what's unique out of the game, and people will just get the newest free MMORPG instead.
BTW, this whole idea that higher level = more fun makes zero sense to me. Who cares if you're level 30? How will that make the game more fun to play? Oh, now everyone has an axe that does max 40 damage. Wow, that was totally pointless (since their HP went up as well...)
No, Anet has the right idea, and the minute they change, is the minute Guild Wars ends.

Agreed. Guild Wars limits everything for a reason. It makes people rely on skill, and working with what they have instead of endless hours of playing like another game we all know of...

Ever hear of Deep Purple - the band? " Oh it's not the kill, but the thrill of the chase."
The fun is in the progression - well, for me it is. I'm a PvEer first and foremost. The only PvP I like is large scale anything goes. Sooooo lvl 30 means more time spent progressing, as I like.
Therefore, Factions is not what I'm looking for... And yes I now have a WOW subscription.... lol
I'm not jaded, I wish well for Factions. Also, I'll keep my eyes open for the next chapter and subsequent ones looking to find what I hope to in the franchise.

stop deciding what the game's gonna be like before its even out, how can people make up their minds from a preview, its a freaking preview
not to mention the random pug 12v12 and 8v8 missions is really what a lot of people are looking for
and the town control does appear to be worldwide, i saw euro guilds on american servers
i believe since alliances control towns, thats 10 guilds x 100 players, 1000 players have access to whatever advantages controlling does, and these top guilds will be filled with people joining just to use those advantages as opposed to right now, where the top guilds only hold a handful of dedicated gvgers
makes joining guilds more worthwhile i guess, and adds a bit more than just pvp for all you pvers out there

55 towns x 10 guilds per alliance = 550 guilds who can go into towns.
Seems bad at first but take into accout that the guild ladder's Active gvgers are between 1-1000 rank. This rank constantly shifts. Guilds stuck near 700-1000 once and a while go higher. So this probably is going to copy in town control.
Relax people I'm sure almost every alliance thats somewhat active will get a town at some point. They might lose it quick but still these towns won't be held for that long.

I think they won't lose it quick. I noticed that town control changes every 3 hours. The 3 hours is also the time set for the boundaries to be updated.
Unless they change it for retail/final, that's how it was.

Not forgetting Jeff promised Elite mission wont drop any loot that cant be obtained anywhere else that would cause unbalance in the game. Will have to wait and see i guess.

Jeez... Guild Wars 12vs12 matches have 8 more players then an average 8vs8 Halo 2 match... And people actually complain? Heck 12vs12 is the average size of a Battle Field 2 server. If Guild Wars goes up to 16vs16 in one of their expansions they'll be raising the standards by a lot.

I kind of agree though!
I was hoping that outpost control WOULD be restricted to server side, along with the battle lines!
If its a worldwide battle then... dang, its gona be helluva hard to see these special mission... well, not hard... damn near impossible!
and YES, Top Alliances will charge an un-godly sum to alow Guilds into their alliance just to see these area's...
if it was server restricted then it wouldnt be so bad!...
I agree with the comments about making GW a challenge, Im one of those rare people who LOVE the favor system..
But this system worrys me alot... but yes, I will wait until the game is finally released before making a determination either way.

The town ownership can be restricted to per region but the problem will be with the International Districts. So I think they ended up making it global.
The borderline will be a big problem, since the system 'group matchup' can match anyone to any districts if certain factors are met, example, there are not much luxon groups in the NA region, it will match you to Luxons from the JP region. So it needs to be global.
And, 12 hours? Haven't heard about it, 12 hours update is too long... I wish they'll stick with 3 hours update for borderline and town ownership. 3 hours is good enough. Below that it will be too fast, higher than that it will be too long.

i've never heard anything said about 12 hours update. if there's a link than post it.
yeah it seems that town control is global, but i don't think it'll turn out to be a problem.

Yea, im pretty sure that before the FPE they Gaile said in a forum somewhere that it would update once every 12 hours, BUT for the FPE it would be much shorter as the event is only 3 days.
And I disagree.. every 12 hours would be fine to me, thats twice a day.... if it was every three hours then it wouldnt be worth fighting for control over these 'faction controled' outposts!.. just wait a few hours and chances are its changed...
I liken it to the 4 times in HA that a server has to win to gain Favor!.. if it was only twice then favor would swap and change so much that it becomes devalued and meaningless since it becomes so easy to get favor.

Understood, I guess I set my bar a bit high. A certain game I play we have in world PvP where there can be 100s fighting and do 40 man raid instances.... I know every game has its share of pluses and minuses.
As for Halo and BF2... never played them, not generally my genre. But I believe they are set in cityscapes, large battlefields, and other such things with fast respawns, and large maps for manouvering and sniping, etc... The closest thing to that in chapter one was the GvG which I liked. I just wish for more players instead of the bunch of NPCs and then it would be sweet.
This game is awesome, and has sooooo much potential. Mouth dropping graphics, etc... I am just throwing out some opinion, nothing more.
